Welcome.

This site is dedicated to the practice of Art & Expressive Therapy, specifically to Sheree Sams, a practicing ‘Art & Expressive Therapist’ in NSW Australia. If you are interested in more information or in viewing Sherees art works please visit her blog ‘coming soon’. Please note, the description of Art therapy and Expressive therapy will be used interchangeably here, typically Art therapist’s are trained in visual art and psychodynamic therapy. Sheree’s training extends visual art and adopts greater creative processes in particular music, play and movement.

For those interested in a creative approach to therapy, Art and Expressive therapy does offer this. This can be useful where verbal dialogue is not the only or necessarily depended on form of communication within a therapeutic relationship with professional boundaries.

As a form of Counselling, Art therapy has it’s roots in psychotherapy. It is delivered individually or with couples and groups for therapeutic outcomes. Art therapy is specific in the way that it uses art materials to engage in a therapeutic way. This process involves expression through various artistic means such as painting, drawing, poetry, or other exploration with art materials it offers a visual way that enhances any verbal communication one may desire to use, for improved mental health and well being.

Expressive therapy is similar to Art therapy but more broad in it’s approach. Expressive therapy extends this process to use art, music, drama, dance, and play for self expression and therapeutic outcomes.
